A New Mindset at Work

When the pandemic is behind us, there is no doubt there will be countless studies on its immense impact. When we think about how the concept of work has changed, we will speak of the role technology has played, the growth and importance of an online presence, as well as the creation of new business models. These shifts mean that both industry and academia must work in tandem to ensure new training and reskilling efforts are prioritized to meet the demands of our evolving workforce. In thinking about the future of work, we must also consider the shift in the mindset of employees.
Employers of all sizes are rethinking their strategies to engage a workforce that is motived by more than just compensation. This new mindset places greater importance on a better lifestyle fit and shared values, which means the recruitment, retention, and methods of growth in all industries must change to reflect it.
The Chamber convened an interactive roundtable discussion on strategies to recruit, retain, and grow a workforce in light of this shift. The Special Report: 2021 Edelman Trust  Barometer: The Belief-Driven Employee was the foundation for discussing these trends and how employers can build trust through their impact. This report not only confirmed a shift in mindset, but showed an accelerating transformation as employees see and respond to the change in the world around them.
Workforce development efforts will be key for all employers as we emerge from this pandemic. Ensuring we focus on the root cause of the shifts will better prepare organizations for success.
