As the leading voice of the business community in Southern California, the Chamber's efforts, in large part, are spent representing your voices in Sacramento. It’s our job to ensure that when legislators debate new laws, regulations and programs, that they understand the impacts to the economy, job creation, and the everyday operations of businesses small and large.
A Place to Become a Healthy Generation

Good health starts in homes, schools, neighborhoods, and communities. With this starting place, Health Net understands that health care is not only what happens in the doctor’s office, but what happens outside. We look beyond clinic walls to effectively improve individual and community health. We’ve heard the saying “it takes a village” and achieving community health equity is no different. That’s why Health Net has a tradition of partnering with community based organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles (BGCMLA), which serves nearly 3,000 youths in some of Los Angeles County’s highest need population, to identify community health solutions upstream. With trusted partners like BGCMLA, Health Net can work towards creating social and physical environments to support healthy lifestyles.

This organization realizes that if we truly want to succeed at moving business and the region forward, we can’t do it alone. Our tradition of convening area leaders, partnering with community organizations, collaborating with other business groups, engaging stakeholders and forming coalitions is at the heart of our success.

California is facing a looming health crisis – a physician shortage that could force people to forgo needed care or push them into emergency rooms for minor ailments. Last year, the University of California San Francisco released a report showing California is expected to face a statewide shortfall of 4,700 primary care providers as soon as 2025. By 2030, we will need another 4,100 providers to meet the demand.

The past few months have brought some challenging developments in immigration policy -- challenges that have put additional pressure on communities working to create a safe, inclusive environment for immigrants and their families.
Los Angeles is home to 3.5 million immigrants, and the Chamber understands how immigrants are inextricably tied to this country’s social fabric and economic success. With unemployment at historic lows, and immigrants adding billions of dollars to our gross domestic product and tax revenue, we need immigration policies that pave the way toward citizenship, encourage diversity in thought and talent, and ensure businesses have the workforce needed to compete in a 21st century global economy.
