LOS ANGELES, CA (Feb. 19, 2020) - Today, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement:
"The Los Angeles region is currently experiencing a housing affordability crisis of sizable proportion that impacts the business community as it seeks to attract a talented and experienced workforce," said Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Maria S. Salinas. "Given the need for providing affordable housing solutions for working and middle-class families in our region, it is important for the Chamber to engage and provide solutions to ensure that workers are able to afford to live closer to work. Last year, the Chamber participated in CEO Roundtables and met with local policymakers during our ACCESS L.A. City Hall event, where we were challenged to find and explore innovative solutions to the affordability crisis. Consequently, the Chamber is currently reviewing a number of options to address the housing crisis including a state funding approach, a policy approach or a ballot initiative. All are in preliminary stages and are currently being reviewed and vetted by our various committees to understand the feasibility of possible solutions. Any suggestion that the Chamber has arrived at a solution at this time is very premature, but we are committed to ensuring our region thrives with affordable housing made available for our workforce."
