Celebrate Black-Owned Business Month

Data from the 2012 U.S. Census Bureau indicated there are approximately 2.6 million Black businesses in the United States that employ nearly 1 million people and generates $187 billion in annual revenues. In light of recent civil unrest due to systemic injustices, it is now more crucial than ever to support Black-owned businesses that support our communities and national economy. August is National Black Business Month and there are many ways you can celebrate this important observance.

 

A helpful way to support the Black community right now is to support Black-owned businesses. Curated lists of Black-owned businesses have surfaced across the internet, from coffee shops to virtual fitness classes to dining to fashion. There are more than 260 Black-owned businesses in and around L.A. to support.

 

Additionally, companies like Netflix and Facebook are celebrating the contributions of Black-owned businesses by highlighting the stories of Black business owners.
