Today’s announcement by Governor Gavin Newsom that he has selected California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to be California’s next United States Senator, filling the term being vacated by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, should be a source of pride for all Angelenos. Senator-designate Padilla will be the first US Senator from Southern California in nearly 40 years.
Alex Padilla, who previously served as a Los Angeles City Councilman and State Senator will become the first Latino to represent California in the United States Senate. Senator-designate Padilla knows Los Angeles and our challenges. At the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, we look forward to working with him in addressing the challenges facing the region’s small businesses and employers.
