Global Council Receives Update on Supply Chain Challenges from the Port

The Chamber’s Global Initiatives Council held its final program of the year with special guest Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles. Seroka provided an in-depth view of the supply chain challenges from 2020 onward and how the Port of Los Angeles has navigated these challenges with various stakeholders — including customers, industry partners, officials and business leaders to meet supply and demand and what is anticipated in the year to come. Diplomatic Members Hold Annual Strategic Roundtable

Nearly 30 members of the Diplomatic & Commercial Officers Group participated in a private roundtable last week to establish program priorities and areas of collaboration for 2023. The session was led by incoming Chair Ian Frederick, West Coast Trade Commissioner for ProChile. Over the past ten years, the group membership has grown from four initial countries to more than 30 members, positioning the Chamber as a commercial bridge between regional companies and many countries.

Port of Los Angeles and JETRO Collaborate on Sustainability and Supply Chain Efficiency

Last month, Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, and Osamu Taki, Chief Executive Director of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), signed a new cooperative agreement. This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) calls to promote cooperation in several key strategic areas, including sustainability, environmental initiatives and supply chain optimization. Port of Long Beach Opens Nation’s First Public Charging Stations for Heavy-Duty Trucks

The Port of Long Beach and EV Connect have announced the first two public charging stations in the nation for heavy-duty electric trucks servicing San Pedro Bay port terminals. EV Connect is a leading provider of charge-management solutions for electric vehicles. To tackle greenhouse gases and criteria pollutants, the Port of Long Beach has set a goal of zero-emissions cargo-handling equipment by 2030 and a zero-emissions drayage truck fleet by 2035. LAX Automated People Mover Earns Envision Gold Award for Sustainable Infrastructure

Last week, the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Automated People Mover (APM) train system won an Envision Gold Award for Sustainable Infrastructure from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). The award recognizes the APM for improving quality of life by minimizing light pollution, reducing noise and vibration, improving mobility, and providing convenient and sustainable transportation options. U.S. Department of Transportation Announces One of the Largest Investments in 50 Years to Expand Intercity Passenger Rail Across America

On December 7, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Railroad Administration released a notice of funding opportunity for $2.3 billion to support investments in intercity passenger rail across the country. This competitive grant program can be used to improve or create rail corridors. Applications are open until March 7, 2023, and the Federal Railroad Administration will provide technical assistance to potential applicants. Learn more here.
